October 22, 2007

By Stephanie Doster

The University of Arizona community and the general public will have the chance to learn more about the UA’s sustainability efforts during Sustainability Week on October 24–30. Kicking things off is Campus Sustainability Day, a nationwide event aimed at drawing attention and giving support to sustainability activities on college campuses. The UA’s Campus Sustainability Program is organizing this event with help from ECOalition, the student sustainability organization.

Throughout the week, the UA will host a number of other public events, including forums on water conservation and community sustainability, a conference for educators, exhibits, a session about recycling, a Web cast and a luncheon highlighting student water harvesting projects. For a calendar of events, visit the UA Campus Sustainability website, http://www.sustainability.arizona.edu/.

A few sustainability events happening off-campus on Saturday, October 27, include Make a Difference Day and Livin’ la Vida Verde Green Festival. For make a Difference Day, Tucson Clean & Beautiful and Tucson Electric Power will partner to plant 1,000 Trees for Tucson to create wildlife habitat, cool our community, and clean our air by planting trees. The Livin’ la Vida Verde Green Festival, sponsored by the Sunnyside School District, Arizona Association for Environmental Education, and Sustainable Tucson, will be held from 12:30 to 5 p.m., at Mission Manor Park, 6100 S. 12th Avenue in Tucson, and is open to the public.
